Remember Who you are.

What are we doing here?

It’s all about this guy…

I am a huge comic book and movie fan, so just know you have been warned. Most of my analogies are references to comics and movies. I make no apologies for my geekiness, but hopefully, even non geeks know that Superman can leap tall buildings in a single bound and outrun a bullet and do all kinds of crazy stuff we wish we could do.

We also know that he went around most of his day to day life pretending to be an ordinary guy (Clark Kent), but underneath the tie and business suit, he knew who he was and he knew his purpose. He knew he had superhuman powers and he knew he could and would save mankind from crisis and disaster if the situation ever arose.

Did you ever think about what would happen if superman ever got amnesia? What if he still had all the ability but forgot who he was? What if the world was in crisis and he didn’t know (or didn’t believe) he could save it?

What a great waste and greater tragedy that would be.

If you had the answer to world’s biggest problem in the palm of your hand but didn’t realize it, so you did nothing, that would be a shame.

So what does this have to do with your business?

If you truly believe you have the power and ability to help people like no one else then you will immediately begin to see the parallel.

Most of our day is spent, like Clark Kent, doing ordinary things: calling customers, making deliveries, cashing people out, paying the bills, making sales calls etc. Clark Kent stuff.

But underneath it all we have the best service, products, knowledge and experience in the Industry.

In other words, just like Superman, we can save people. We save them money, time, and frustration. The problem is we sometimes forget that, or don’t believe it.

My question to you, Superman, is this: do you know who you really are, and what kind of power you have? Do you know what your purpose or mission statement is?

If you answered “no” these questions, then my guess is you are probably not very happy or fulfilled. You are like Bruce Willis in Unbreakable. Before he discovered his abilities, he was depressed and aimless.

Or even better, you are like Mr. Incredible when he was living as just an average guy living in the suburbs. He dreamed and yearned for action and adventure that came from helping people in crisis. I could go on and on, but you get my point.

You will not be truly happy or fulfilled in life until you are helping people at some level. Until you believe that you are not there just to do a job, but to help people in crisis you will never be living to your full potential.

People in crisis are not easy to deal with. It is not always fun, but it is an adventure. Sometimes people are panicky when in crisis. They scream and thrash about and try to pull you under as you try to save them. But you can handle it, after all you are Superman. That is why you were given these powers to begin with. You can handle problems no one else can.

When it get’s tough, just remember who you are and why you are here, and that you have a greater purpose, and don’t make the mistake of becoming too comfortable as Clark Kent that you sacrifice that purpose for an easier life.
