Everyone Knows About Goals?

When I finished my article for this week, I asked my editor what she thought. Her response was, “It’s ok.”

“Just ok,” I challenged. I thought it was a great article.

However, she replied, “Well, it’s about goals and where you see yourself at the end of the year. Everyone has read about that already.”

“Yeah, well why aren’t they doing it?” I asked myself quietly.

Why aren’t you doing it?

If everyone knows that setting and achieving goals is the way to reach your dreams, why don’t they do it? It seems so simple. Yet, only about 25% of the adult society puts their goals in writing.

So that becomes the big question. You know you need to set goals to achieve your dreams, but you don’t do it? Why?

The biggest excuse I hear from people about why they can’t get things done is that they think they have no time. “I’m too busy, and there is just not enough time,” they protest.

Everyone is given the same amount of time every day. The problem is that you are too busy watching TV, playing video games (in today’s world) and wasting valuable minutes of your time when you could be making plans to achieve your goals and dreams.

Instead of wasting time with complicated time management techniques, all you need is a to-do list. Write it down and keep it with you. You know what to do, quit making excuses and get it done.

Have you ever seen those people with tons of paperwork stacked up on their desk? It’s a scientific filing system for all of the work they need to get done. Don’t let work stack up on your desk. Keep one drawer for unfinished work that needs your attention at a later date. Keep the rest of your work done. Staying at work one night until 10 pm to catch up won’t kill you.

Other people think their goals are too wild and crazy to be really sought after. Friends might tell them they can’t do it, or are crazy for trying. Avoid those people. If you have a goal or dream you want to achieve you have to seek out people that will help you achieve it, not someone who is going to belittle your dreams.

Don’t be scared to fail. How many times did you fail when you where learning to ride a bike? Or learning to walk when you were a baby? Failing is part of succeeding. All you have to do is keep your motivation up until you succeed.

Goals are easy to achieve if you can start making use of your wasted time. Talk time at work can be converted into making and achieving one business goal that day. TV time at home can be converted into planning and achieving your life’s dreams.

You know what to do, quit procrastinating and just do it.

Water Saving Tips For Your Landscape
Irrigation Landscape

Last week I wrote about how to save water with new products manufactured by the major irrigation companies. Adding these items to your sprinkler system can greatly reduce the amount of water you use.

In addition, there are many items you can improve on yourself in order to save water around your landscape. Try these following items and help reduce amount of water you use.

1) Fix all leaks in your irrigation system. Fixing leaks in you irrigation system can save 20 gallons per leak a week.

2) Water less frequently with larger application rates. Most types of grasses we have in our area can flourish with only one application of water per week. Watering deeper will allow the water to get to the root system.

3) Don’t allow your irrigation system to water paved areas such as street, sidewalk, patios, or driveways.

4) Raise your mower height by a ½”. The higher you cut your lawn, the more soil moisture will be retained and the deeper the root system will grow.

5) Install monitors for your irrigation system such as wind and rain sensors.

6) Set your irrigation controller to water early in the morning or late at night to avoid larger evaporation rates during the heat of the day.

7) Don’t clean your sidewalks with water. Using a broom to clean sidewalks and patio areas can save up to 150 – 200 gallons each time instead of using water hose.

8) Use a rain gauge to determine the amount of water your lawn has received and limit your irrigation system from watering as much during that time.

9) Don’t install water features such as waterfalls unless they recycle the water used.

There are several other ways to conserve water both outside and inside your house. Start with these and if your interested in more tips, research “water saving tips” on the internet.
