Refocus on Resolutions

Almost everyone made at least one New Year's Resolution this year. Some people might have made more.

Have you managed to stay focused on the resolutions you made, or have you strayed from the path you originally set at the beginning of the year?

It is easy to get off track, especially when real world challenges kick in and you lose the momentum you had at the beginning of the year.

New Year's resolutions, just like goals, have three basic reasons why they never get accomplished. These three reasons are:

  1. People don't make a plan for achievement
  2. People don't post their goals where they can see them everyday
  3. People don't spend time everyday working on their goal
Have you kept on track for your New Year's resolutions? Or have you given up? Come on!! Don't give up yet!!!!

Here are my tips for getting back on track with your New Year's Resolutions and celebrating a great 2007.

1) Write your goal down. Approximately 75% of our adult society does not keep their goals in writing. Pick one or two of your New Year's Resolutions and write them down WITH a date of completion and post them in plain view. Post them on your bathroom mirror or your computer screen. Put them somewhere you can see them everyday.

2) Make a plan. After you write down your goals, you need to make a plan to achieve them. This includes identifying obstacles, listing people that can help you, and dividing the goals into smaller attainable tasks. The more you can detail out your plans, the better chance you have of obtaining your goals.

3) Spend time in thought. You should take time everyday to picture yourself in the future, after you have achieved your goal. Just take a few minutes, and dream about obtaining your goal and how your life will change when you reach it. Do this everyday, and achievement will just show up.

4) Work on your goal everyday. Split your goal and plan into bite sized chucks that you can work on everyday. Even if it is just for a few minutes, figure out a way to accomplish part of your goal on a daily basis. Do this as a daily routine and you will see how the achievement of your goals can be a staircase to success.

5) Celebrate and reward yourself. When you accomplish a goal, you must celebrate. That is the best part of any achievement. Celebration is fun and it makes you feel great. When you make you plan, don't ever forget to put down a reward for your achievement and what you will do to celebrate.

Don't quit now!! There is still hope for you to accomplish your New Year's Resolutions. It will take hard work and commitment, but you can start digging in today.

Get back on track and use the steps above to accomplish the resolutions you made at the beginning of the year. When you reach your goal, email me with your success story and I will share it with our readers.

Mulch vs. Bagging

Many people ask me if it is better to mulch or bag your grass when you mow.

The answer: Mulch.

In almost all cases, mulching is better for the health of your yard than bagging and disposing of the clippings. Recycling the grass clippings can redistribute some of the fertilizer you have applied to your yard. In addition, the grass clippings will provide around one-third of the nitrogen you will need to grow a healthy lawn.

Some people are concerned about thatch build-up when mulching their yard. However, grass clippings are more than 80% water and decompose very quickly. As long as you routinely cut your yard, thatch buildup will not be a concern.

Mulching instead of bagging also saves time. When you mulch, you can cut out all of the time it takes to bag and dispose of the grass clippings. This time savings can be up to 30%!!

If you have a choice, toss the bag and start mulching your yard today!
